A Quarter of a Century...

Every year on my birthday I write a list of notable events from the prior year in my personal journal.  It's usually trivial with where I lived, where I traveled, blah blah. Since I'll be 25 tomorrow I began my reflection (no I was not looking in the mirror) and couldn't think of anything other than meeting Chris.  Everything else like living in Cedar City and traveling no where seemed insignificant. Shocker! So instead I have compiled a list of 25 things I want to do in my 25th year of life...
  1. frame my big map
  2. wear my favorite jeans loosely
  3. re-read a harry potter book
  4. go on a trip with chris
  5. run a race
  6. enter a photography contest
  7. hike the Y
  8. read jesus the christ
  9. take a photoshop class
  10. create a christmas eve tradition with chris
  11. make a new close friend
  12. surprise chris with a crazy fun date
  13. host a murder mystery dinner
  14. learn to use google docs
  15. give a present to the guy who collects our trash
Let's make it happen captain!

P.S. I did take that picture and yes Chris does have more arm hair than me. Thank goodness.

My Youthins...

I've mentioned before that last year I landed an internship with the city.  I've been lucky enough to stay on this year as well.   I run the Youth City Council that focuses on government learning and improving the youth of the city.  Last year the program only had 9 members and this year it's grown to 26.  My goal has been to make it a competitive program.  I think next year it will be, as we had to turn away a few extras just last week.  Tonight they were sworn in and inducted.  Next week we begin leadership meetings.  It's been a lot of work to get here but I am really looking forward to our upcoming activities.

2008 China Olympics....

In class we throw the term bureaucracy around like it ain't no thing. Last night in class my degree  finally became real. It was a harsh reality... I'm going to be the guy who erects the screen.

The Loo....

When you're married is it inappropriate to have a Harry Potter themed bathroom?
I will ask Chris tonight.

Calm Chris Part 2....

You can start reading about how I decided to love Chris here. I will jump into where I left off.  Once I decided I liked Chris, maybe even loved. I for sure didn't want him to find out.  I knew he had tried to tell me a few times but I didn't want to face the awkward silence that might follow.  I still wasn't 100%.  One time we were watching a movie and he leaned over and said, "I....dig you". I was like what the heck. I think he was going to say love but chickened out  and inserted "dig". What a dork!

The truth is one day it just happened and I think it shocked him more than it shocked me.  Chris likes to scare people, and by people I mean me.  He is always jumping out behind corners or hiding behind things.  I find this annoying but funny at the same time.  It's sort of like one of those sweet and sour suckers.  Bad analogy... moving on.   One day I was coming out of the bathroom.  Right when I grabbed the door handle to come out, he started pounding on the door.  Scared the crap out of me.  But not literally because remember I was just using the bathroom folks.  My immediate instinct was to start throwing punches.  So while I am punching he's laughing his butt off.  All the sudden he grabs me in a head lock and says, "Gosh, I love you."  We both just froze.  I just stood there and then I just said it back.  Pretty soon we were back to beating each other up.  Simple as that.  No candles, no pre-determined speech-just outside the bathroom while beating each other up.

I could write a Part 3 of our story but it all pretty much went down hill from there.  I guess once you love someone you just decide to marry them- no panick attacks or nothin.  So even though I've known him for almost two years none of this bathroom love started until June.  Pretty tricky huh.

My Favorite Joke....

Q: What did the doe say when she came out of the trees?

A: I'll never do that for 2 bucks again!

I can format my SD card now....

1. Mom was too lazy to come tell me to move my car and tried to pull in the garage anyway. Notice her face -never laughed so hard in my life.  Surprisingly, our cars were not touching.

2. Took some 1 year old pictures of Sisterville's tot. Please bless I never have to take 1 year old pictures again.  My whole Master degree isn't as hard as trying to keep this kid still.

White background, dead lawn, cut off feet. Hey at least the kid is smiling.

3. Chris shaved his face. It always surprises me.  I usually have to stare at him for 52 minutes before realize - Oh that's my Chris.

4. Chris bought me flowers. Not because he shaved his face. I think because he knows how hard it is for me to drive back to Cedar on Sunday nights.  Sweet lil tot isn't he.

5. The neph Hayden became an Eagle Scout the week after he committed to the Cougs.

6. I've still been working on my camera skills.  Here's some artsy fartsy shots. Does the heart silhouette make you feel as weird as it does me.

You're Welcome

My Apologies in Advance...

  • The tallest human ever is standing next to my computer in the lab right now.  I hope he can't read this...
  • I think my feet stink. I'm not sure if it's mine but it could possibly be.
  • School this semester is way better than last year.  I'm appreciative of my two professors who eliminated tests.  My anxiety just lost 60 pounds.
  • America is overweight because they work all day and forget to eat and then eat at 8:30 in the car while driving to the library. Ok maybe that's not America just me.
  • I got asked on a date today and it wasn't by Chris.  Awkward. I would go through 4267 billion more awkward moments to reproduce the feeling of never having to go on another first date.
  • Oh and just because your twice removed, cousins, aunt lives in Salem, I probably don't know her. When you ask me again next Tuesday I still won't know her.
  • Chris keeps complaining that during the week he only gets "tired Danielle" because I don't ever have time to talk until late at night.  My solution has been to call him about 6 when I get up.  I believe he has officially stopped complaining.
  • I have "comma issues." Really I do.
  • Tallest man ever's butt is now on equal level as my head.  Please tell me you are imagining how tall he is right now.
  • Did Corey and Tapanga end up together?  Why is that the only thing that comes to mind when writing my Labor Relations paper.
  • If I get crop dusted by another international student smoking their cig outside the business building I'm going to go ballistic- literally like a missile. Maybe Katy Perry will write a song about it.
  • The only thing more awkward about being asked out when your engaged is tripping while waving to someone who you're not sure is in your "hello" range yet.
  • I dreamed two nights a go that my mom made me wear a cowboy hat to my wedding. Last night I dreamed I couldn't find a job and had to sale perfume at Dillard's.  I mean seriously my self conscience wouldn't even let me work at Nordstrom.
  • The fridge at Chris's house smells like an ash tray. I have cleaned that fridge no less that 764 times in my mind.
  • Sometimes when I imagine Satan I imagine Lord Voldemort.

I realize I shouldn't do blog posts when I'm this tired but "my give a damns busted"
Thank you Jo Dee Messina

Joseph Smith.....

I received an email a long time a go with this photo of Joseph Smith. It says it's the real deal and I hope it is.  Before I lived in New York I didn't feel like my testimony of the restoration of the church was that strong.  Now I just want to have the time I had then to study it more.  There are such amazing stories that I know I haven't even touched the surface of.  I'm going to start with the new Relief Society book I received yesterday. You can read more about it here.  When the church does something, they do it right!

The Ranch Rodeo....

I would 100% happy if my brothers would give up team roping and just go to ranch rodeo's.  Ranch rodeo's have similar aspects of a regular rodeo but include more ranch style events. Such as doctoring cows, roping horses, and using a bigger loop.  But that's not really why I like it so much. I think I like it so much because awhile back my brothers got to where they don't miss.  So all those years I had to be roped and thrown around, its nice to see them reach beyond their abilities.  If you call winning it three times a in a row beyond their abilities. I really just like seeing them get pushed around a bit. However I will say- nothings going to beat the mud flop of 2010, where my brother wrestled a steer in the bottom of the arena just after a rain storm.  Classic!

But really the highlight of the night was that corn chopper and sisterville's tot could stand on the fence all by himself.  Can't believe how big he's getting!

The County Fair...

Having gone to so many horse shows, its hard to remember specifics.  However as I kid I was always excited about the county fair.  It's fun to see that the tradition still resides with the grand kids.  Hopefully my dad won't give up on all the little hoodlums by the time Chris and I want to start a family.  I can't imagine not growing up around horses. I also can't imagine not knowing how to clean a stall. Maybe I'll teach Chris how this weekend.....

White and Blue.....

Hayden is my nephew.  Who I've explained before he's quite amazing.  He is athletic, smart and sweet as can be.  He and I are close.  When I say close I mean, what 17 year old boy texts their aunt on a regular basis.  He was one of the first to know I wanted to marry Chris.  He has been there for me more than a 17 year old should have to be there for a 24 year old.  Either way I know he's had to make some big decisions as of late.  I'm proud to say that he has committed to play baseball for......

Yup BYU!  I know that BYU will help him not only athletically but academically as well as spiritually.  I couldn't be more proud.

Congrats Haydro!
P.S. I can't wait for you to move to Provo!

The 4 Seasons....

...and I don't mean the hotel. I love when summer turns into fall, like really love it. The other day Chris asked how I knew it was fall. My response -When the leaves start changing and I can wear a hoodie to Hayden's football games.
Folks last night I wore a hoodie.  I thought I'd let you know when the other seasons are too.

1st Day of Winter- When I start dreading finals and people stop making fun of me for watching Christmas movies so early.
1st Day of Spring- When I can wear flip flops a whole day and not have my toes fall off.
1st Day of Summer- When my dad finally kicks on the air conditioner.

Really Old Film Camera Strikes Again....

To add to my last post. Chris sent me these pictures of the day we got engaged.  I know it's a bit grainy but I didn't want to edit a thing. Okay maybe I cropped my head out because I looked homeless but really old film camera is really good at capturing sparkle. Again I will say-I did not add those bright sparkling lights bouncing off my ring.
This one I didn't even crop because I think thumb mustache is funny and I like that we know how to blur the background now. Bam! Why does my finger looked squigged?
But then sometimes really old film camera fails us. I think I would have liked this picture.
P.S. I always promised myself I'd never be that girl who put their hand in a wrist bending fashion and take pictures of their ring.  Gross.... I've become that girl. I swear it won't happen again.
